AAC Pillars – Pillar III: Caries Related Research

Much research is in progress around the world on dental caries.

This ranges from fundamental studies about the microbiome to applied translational studies on caries management technologies and procedures. The coming decade will see progress on caries-risk assessment, caries-management, remineralization enhancement, biofilm dysbiosis and modification, genetic manipulation, patient behavioral modification, translating basic science into clinical reality, an emphasis on wellness, and studies on cost effectiveness and health policy.

A special issue of Advances in Dental Research will be published in February 2018 which covers the state of the art in several of these areas.
